Sydney Bus — Buses are a great way for visitors to get around Sydney. Extremely user-friendly, Sydney’s buses go everywhere. For timetables and routes, including late night options, call 131 500 or go to the Transport Info website and use the route planning tool:

Major bus thoroughfares in the city center are on Pitt, Castlereagh and George streets and around Circular Quay and Sydney Central Station. All city buses are PrePay-only between 7am and 7pm on weekdays, which means purchasing a ticket before boarding. Find out more about PrePay buses, and where to buy pre-paid bus tickets here:

The Metrobus network (characterized by red buses) comprises 13 routes, providing high-frequency, high-capacity links across Sydney. Fares are determined by the number of sections (of town) one is passing through. Based on that, fares can range from A$2.30 (adult single ride/1-2 sections) to A$4.60 (adult single/6+ sections). For multiple rides, one can buy a “Travel Ten” fare card (prices ranging from A$18.40/adult single/1-2 sections, to A$36.80/adult single 6+ sections). See the following page for more details:

NOTE FOR TOURISTS:

 

Sydney City Explorer Bus: The open-topped, red double-decker bus that drives around city streets is the City Explorer. Buy a ticket and you can hop on and hop off at 34 different stops that include all the major Sydney attractions – Darling Harbour, The Rocks, Chinatown, Circular Quay, the Opera House, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Hyde Park, Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo. Tours run every day, all day. There’s also a blue Explorer bus that drives around the eastern suburbs’ harbor side bays and Bondi Beach. Fares for such tours start at A$40 (adult).
